Title: “Berzerker” (Perpetual 8-bit Video Synthesizer)
Description: Interactive Media Installation with Single Channel Projection 2010
Materials: Mixed media, Video Synthesizer, Arduino, Monitor, DV Projector, optical sensors
Manifestation: This installation consists of one circuit bent 8bit-video synthesizer. In which the user interface of the synthesizer has been converted to servo drives that are controlled by optical sensors. The optical sensors are placed on the monitor and react to variations in the image that is created by the synthesizer. The changes in signal are sent to the servo drives which in turn control the user interface of the video synthesizer. A split in the video output provides viewers with a projection of the ever changing image created by the video synthesizer.
Concept: To create an ever changing self-perpetuating video synthesizer, that reacts upon itself by reading the output signals and adjusting the video image. This installation can be modified with motion and range sensors in place of the optical sensors that are mounted on video monitor. What results is an interactive video synthesizer that is controlled by human or objects moving and front of the sensors and sending signals to the servo drives to adjust image control.
There are to images here to represent what is going on.
Video clip (1) Walks though the components
Video clip (2) Shows what the viewer will see via ether monitor or video projection
The final installation will very somewhat from what is pictured here.
